De Zille Butler Gets a Taste for Ferrari - December 13th, 2007

Having tested the Lamborgini Gallardo last month today saw Ben’s opportunity to see how the Ferrari 430 would compare thanks to an invitation from new Britsih GT entrants CRScuderia.

As is typical with winter testing the day started late with ice still coating sheltered areas of the Donington Circuit in Derbyshire when the pit lane finally opened midway through the morning. Andrew Kirkaldy, Director of CRScuderia, was first in the car to evaluate the conditions and check the car set up. As the conditions were still slippery a competitive time could not be set but he reported that the car felt good despite the lack of grip available.

By eleven thirty the track, although still very cold and slippery, was free of ice and the 6 drivers invited to test the car set about their evaluations. Each driver was given a ten lap run and with the first 2 drivers times it was clear that the track conditions were costing about 3 seconds per lap. Second out in the car was Mclaren Autosport finalist Dean Smith who set a time of 1:12.4 followed by Ben team mate from Barwell in 2007 managing a 1:12.8.

With the blue skies of the morning clouding over and the temperature dropping Ben completed his 10 lap run without incident and as is normal for Ben built up a nice rhythm in the car as the session went on posting a 1:12.4 on his final flying lap. This showed a good performance for Ben with only 1 years GT racing under his belt so far.

"The car is very well balanced and very easy to drive once you are into the rhythm. Compared to the Lamborghini is was not as easy to jump in and do a time straight away and the steering was very light until you had if completely loaded but I think with some time behind the wheel it could be the right car for 2008" said Ben afterwards." We now need to go  away and evaluate the best package for me in 2008 and the one that will give me the best chance of winning the title."

Ben will now be taking a few weeks out of the car with his family over Christmas and hopes his next outing will be as part of his 2008 package.

Ben still has sponsorship opportunities available for 2008 so if you want to be part of a winning team please contact him at
